Acey-Deucey
Acey-Deucey is one of the oldest variants of the backgammon family. In Acey-Deucey, the game starts with no pieces on the board. Each player must place their pieces each round, and cannot start moving them until all 15 pieces are placed.
The player who rolls an “Acey-Deucey” (1 and 2) can choose any number from one to six and treat it as if they had thrown a double of said number, then the player will gain another turn.
Additionally, if you roll a double in Acey-Deucey, you can move four times and traverse as many spaces as the rolled amount. You will gain another turn after you finish your turn.
Hypergammon
Hypergammon is a much-simplified version of regular backgammon in which each player must start with three pieces instead of 15. These pieces will be put on the three first points of the board, and the game will proceed just like in regular backgammon.
This version of backgammon is somewhat unpopular for backgammon Dubai players, as it relies more on luck rather than strategy. However, it should be noted that this is likely the best online backgammon variant for players starting in the game as it will allow them to practice the game’s basic mechanics without significant issues.
Nard
Nard is an ancient Persian game considered backgammon’s predecessor. In this version, the 15 pieces of each player are piled up and placed in diagonally opposite corners of the board, with each player moving each of its pieces in the opposite direction clockwise.
The main difference between Nard and backgammon is that you can’t hit the opponent pieces, meaning that you have to choose spots where there are no opponents pieces to progress. This makes it one of the best online backgammon variants for people who want a more strategic game.
Tapa
In Tapa, the 15 pieces of each player are piled up and put on the far right of the screen, and each player can start moving immediately. The objective of this game consists of reaching your home board by moving your pieces clockwise or counterclockwise and bearing off (removing) all your pieces.
One of the main features of Tapa is the ability to pin the pieces of your opponents, trapping them down and creating openings to move your other pieces faster. This makes it the best online backgammon variant for the people who like the combat aspect of the game.
